Perrin's Path - East Coast Greenway

Location: Myrtle Beach, SC

Project Type: Landscape Urbanism / Recreational

Completion Date: On-going

This particular segment of trail is dedicated to the late Perrin Lawson. Perrin was an architect, planner, and active servant to Myrtle Beach for 32 years until he departed this life in 2001. In his honor, the Perrin’s Path Committee was assembled and has dedicated their time and effort into the planning and design of this segment of the East Coast Greenway now named ‘Perrin’s Path’. The segment has strategically incorporated Perrin’s significant qualities and characteristics that represent the type of person he was.

The East Coast Greenway is a long-distance, urban, shared-use trail system linking 25 major cities along the eastern seaboard between Calais, Maine and Key West, Florida. It will serve non-motorized users of all abilities and ages. A 3,000-mile long spine route will be accompanied by 2,000 miles of alternate routes that link in key cities, towns, and areas of natural beauty. This green travel corridor will provide cyclists, walkers, and other muscle-powered modes of transportation with a low-impact way to explore the eastern seaboard. The Perrin’s Path segment of the East Coast Greenway runs through Myrtle Beach between 48th Ave. N and 61st Ave. N., and between Grissom Pkwy and the proposed Pine Lakes PUD.

As a community in need of an alternative to the automobile, the Perrin’s Path Committee’s main goal is to enhance the lives of the people of Myrtle Beach, and also to the person this trail has been dedicated. The Perrin’s Path Committee prides itself on incorporating sustainable elements throughout this particular segment of the East Coast Greenway. Moving forward, the committee has set up design philosophy that will only allow low impact and sustainable elements to be incorporated in any future design, construction, or installation.
